For more complicated selections, raising this number can make it easier. If you use Lasso Tool, you can create a selection by freehand. Frequencyįrequency is how many anchor points the tool drops as you go. For high-contrast selections, you can bump it up to ensure the program only grabs the high-contrast edges. The default contrast setting is set low at 10%. ![]() Photoshop finds the edge of the object by looking for contrast. The cursor will turn into a circle showing the width. You can see the size by pressing the caps lock key. You can adjust the width by pressing the bracket keys for larger. But it also might pick up other elements in the image that you don’t want. The width dictates how close you have to be to the edge for the program to find it.Ī larger width means you don’t have to follow the edge as closely. To use this tool, you first activate the menu item and drag a freeform shape around the item(s) you want to select with LMB. Width is important for the magnetic lasso. Raising this number will create a soft, blurred-out edge. Clicking the Shape button will create a new Shape layer in the Layers Panel.For all the lasso tools, setting the feather at 0px creates a hard line.The Options Bar has buttons for turning the closed path into a a Selection, Mask, or Shape.You can also press Esc at any time to close a path. When making a shape, a small circle appears next to the pen icon when you get back to the point of origins indicating that the path is about to be closed. Paths can be either open, in the case of a simple line, or closed, as in a shape.If you know that corner point is needed up front, you can also double-click as you create it. It works by clicking and holding who you drag the cursor around the outline of the selection. If a corner point is needed, double-clicking the anchor point will convert it.
